ROZENSTRAAT

For those who love the grandeur and style of the interbellum period, this mansion, built in 1934 and located in the centre of Hasselt, would be a dream to live in. Many of the authentic elements are still present in the house; high ceilings, wooden floors, elegant rosettes and robust natural stone mantelpieces are still present.
A young, committed family is fortunate enough to buy the house and have decided to share it with people who are struggling financially. They would like to share a part of their home with a family that has been granted asylum in Belgium and wants to integrate in Hasselt.

Therefore it was important to find a balance between private space for each family and social space where the two families can interact with each other. The kitchen on ground level would be the main social space where all residents of the house can join together to cook and eat while having interesting conversations. The communal hallway with two large openings towards the kitchen makes that these gatherings could be easily arranged or spontaneously happen. The hallway and kitchen also connects with the communal garden. The only private area on ground level is the workspace of the 35 year old owner, who's a graphic designer and mainly works from home.
You'll find the private living area and study room of the owner's family on level 1, which is accessible from the staircase in the kitchen and from the staircase in the entrance hall.

The communal staircase leads to the bathroom and bedrooms of the owner's family on level 2 and the loft of the guest family on level 3. The loft makes place for 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen unit and living area, with a connection to the attic that can function as a study/workspace but also as a play area for children.
